Sam I am was a T1000

Once more I may be dating myself, but take the ride with me, it will make sense in a moment. For most of us Dr. Seuss was an early introduction to the love of reading (with his bright colors and nonsensical language). But hidden in some of his books were messages that were to follow us throughout our adult lives.

The Grinch taught us to enjoy life and not be curmudgeons. One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish taught us about diversity and inclusion. The Cat in the Hat was a lesson in living in the moment, but also recognizing your decisions and actions will have consequences. Green Eggs and Ham (my personal favorite) taught us the lesson of perseverance (I consider it the first book on sales any of us ever read). But there is a note hiding just below the surface we want to consider. It is a nugget of truth that could transform our drive for success. What was the fuel that drove Sam I am to confidently and relentlessly wade through all the waves of rejection to receive that first yes?

Consider for a moment the product he was providing (Green Eggs and Ham) provided no obvious benefit to any consumer. There was never a value proposition put forth, no case studies or social proof that this dish had any umami at all. It must not of had the smell appeal of other bacon adjacent products because the customer was immediately put off by it. We never even saw Sam eating this strange concoction, so why on earth would anyone think this was something anyone should try? That is the self same mindset every consumer has before coming in contact with our products, services, or solutions. So we too will wade through waves of rejection before receiving acceptance. What keeps us going?

Find your why. Why does your product, solution or service, give you purpose? Why does it make the world a better place? Why can you attach your personal brand to this and feel good? Once you find these answers, you have all the fuel you need to be as relentless as Sam I am: the T1000 of the Green Eggs and Ham Street Team.

If it makes sense...it will make money.

So it's "Rich Dad, Poor Dad", "Investing in Gold & Silver", "Green Eggs & Ham", and "Atomic Habits"... good to know!

With a dash of Gung Ho and 7 Habits of Effective People. I appreciate the attention you gave to this piece and the library from which you were able to draw the connections. I look forward to seeing which other influences you can excavate from my future posts.
